Trending social media and mental health care

It is often assumed that social media use contributes to mental health issues and impaired cognitive functioning. This assumption has even led to a ban on social media use for children under 16 in Australia. Recently, in the Netherlands, politicians from D66 suggested implementing a similar measure.

‘I am not crazy, just help me get rid of my neighbors. They are constantly on my back!’ Something along these lines represents a common assistance request by people with psychotic disorders. Insight is impaired in a majority of patients with psychotic disorders.
